What
are Fillers
and Liquid Facelifts?
Our Filler Approach
Our practice philosophy believes fillers are a journey and not a destination. We spend time evaluating your facial ratios and proportion to avoid overfilling with the goal to create a natural, contoured appearance. Our approach is more conservative than most and can require more than one visit for optimal correction. Time also allows the filler product to integrate into your skin. In one visit, you’ll experience an immediate improvement for a rejuvenated you. We like to have others guessing why you look so darn good without suspecting that filler is the reason unless you choose to tell them.
What are Fillers and Liquid Facelifts?
Fillers are gel-like injectables developed to address wrinkles and fine lines due to volume loss associated with aging. With each decade, our skin gets thinner and we lose collagen, bone, fat pads (lipoatrophy) in our face that results in:
- Fallen cheekbones and sunken cheeks
- Hallowed, dark circles under eyes
- Crepey skin under eyes, neck and chest
- Sagging jawlines with jowling/outpouching
- Deepening nasolabial folds
- “Orange peel” chin with deep creases
- Receding/weakly defined lips
- Vertical lip lines
- Downward creases on sides of mouth (oral commissure)
- Lower face creases around the mouth (marionette lines)
- Thin skinned, veiny, older-looking hands
What Is a Liquid Facelift?
Facelifts have traditionally meant surgery with weeks of healing time to lift and soften the appearance of fatigued, aging skin. Liquid facelifts use injectable fillers to deliver facelift-like results without surgery. When patients come in reporting they’re repeatedly told they look tired or sad, a combination of individually selected dermal fillers and neurotoxins (Botox and/or Xeomin) can provide natural-looking results for a younger looking you with no cutting.
Liquid facelifts have become a popular surgical alternative because they can be transformational with immediate results and no required downtime.
Linda Hinds-Alexander wrote “Transformation means reassessing and then taking action on redefining and remolding me to the best of my ability.”
What fillers are available?
Enhance Skin and Brow offers a wide range of filler options. Shorter dermal term fillers (6 months to 1+ years) boost naturally occurring Hyaluronic Acid (HA) with non-animal Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in the skin.
Shorter terms fillers are Allergan’s/Abbvie’s suite of FDA approved filler products including Juvederm Ultra XC, Ultra, Volbella™ XC, Ultra Plus XC, Voluma™ XC, Vollure ™ XC, and Ultra Plus. Other HA dermal fillers such as Galderma’s Restylane lasts around 10 months.
Intermediate HA fillers examples are from Revance Aesthetics®, a newer company with an innovative technology offering FDA approved dermal fillers with their RHA® Collection. Revance fillers last around 18-24 months.
Galderma’s Sculptra, a non-HA collagen bio-stimulating filler, can also continue to provide longer lasting results in the face for up to two years.
Suneva offers a 5+ year long term filler called Bellafill. It is collagen bio-stimulant that delivers immediate volume replacement while building collagen over 6 months post injection. We offer a Bellafill skin test to evaluate for any sensitivities in advance of treatment.
What does a Liquid Facelift Cost?
The price for a liquid facelift will vary per person. The appropriate choice of fillers will be discussed during the consultation before treatment. The number and types of fillers are different for each person depending on the amount of correction needed and your budget. A single syringe of dermal filler typically runs between $700-$1200 depending on product selected. Neurotoxins cost between $14-$16 per unit.
How Long Does a Liquid FaceLift Take and Last?
A liquid facelift usually takes 1.5 to 2.0 hours per procedure including the consultation time to determine your priority concerns, review medical history and customize a strategy for optimal correction. Depending on the fillers used, short-term fillers usually last 1-2 years and a longer-term filler is 5+ years. Some fillers are bio-stimulants to build your own healthy collagen for dealing with aging volume loss. The duration of your results is influenced by the composition of the fillers, where the filler was injected, and the degree of correction.

Is a Liquid Facelift Painful?
Our experienced injectors will use injectable and/or topical anesthetic to minimize associated discomfort. In most cases, we also use a cannula instead of a needle to administer the dermal filler injections. Using a cannula reduces the risk of bruising to achieve a better result with little to no downtime.
What can be done to minimize filler bruising?
Below are 8 recommended steps to lessen your risk of bruising.
1. Avoid blood thinners medications and supplements for at least one week and preferably two weeks prior to filler treatment because they slow platelet cell response times in your blood that stop bleeding. It’s important to consult with your physician if using prescribed regular blood thinning medications before stopping.
When booking your appointment, let us know if you are taking Aspirin, Coumadin, Eloquis or Xarelto to your list of medications at the time of your appointment.
Examples of mild blood thinning medications/supplements are:
Medications to Avoid | Supplements to Avoid |
Aspirin* | Vitamin E |
NSAIDS *Ibuprofen *Motrin® *Naproxen *Advil® | Fish Oil Omega 3 fatty acid oils (Flaxceed oil) |
*Coumadin* *Eloquis * *Xarelto * *ONLY AFTER CONSULTING YOUR PHYSICIAN | St. John’s Wort |
Turmeric | |
Ginkgo Biloba | |
Chai seeds | |
Garlic |
2. Avoid alcohol for one day before and after injections because it can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
3. Avoid vigorous exercise for 1-2 days post injections.
4. Avoid hot tubs and hot yoga.
5. Take Zyrtec and Pepsid, two over the counter medications, for two days twice a day.
6. Sleep with your head slightly elevated at a 30-degree angle for two days post injection.
7. Wait 24 hours before applying makeup.
8. Use oral Arnica before, day of and after treatment. Gently apply Arnica gel or Alastin’s Inhance topically on treated filler area. Apply ice packs gently using a gauze or thin towel between ice and treated skin area to reduce inflammation.
Should I Expect Downtime with Liquid Facelifts?
Most patients don’t experience any downtime post a liquid facelift and can go about their activities of daily living. There can be swelling for the first few days to a week. The short-term hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are hydrophilic. This means the filler attracts water to the treated area which contributes to the swelling. Bruising is not likely but possible. At completion of the procedure, we will recommend a combination of anti-inflammatory strategies to minimize swelling. We do ask our filler patients not to engage in heavy exercise, hot yoga or hot tubs for two days and to sleep with their head elevated if possible.
How to Get the Best Filler Results?
The results of filler injections can vary widely from person to person based on several factors. Start by finding an experienced injector who knows facial anatomy. Quality filler results requires a practitioner who understands that filler injections are both an art and science. Selecting the right filler product is based on medical history, area being addressed, practitioner’s experience administering the product, desired product duration and budget. Some fillers are temporary and some are permanent.
